An Argentine writer in his tradition. Juan José Saer in El Litoral

Abstract
This paper intends to reflect on the early years of Juan José Saer by analyzing the literary page of the newspaper El Litoral between 1957 and 1959. For this purpose, we will review Saer's relationship with Hugo Gola and the members of the literary group Adverbio, and we will analyze the contributions of Raúl Gustavo Aguirre, Juan Carlos Portantiero and Edgard Bayley in the culture section of the newspaper. By doing so, we aim to show that the conversations that were taking place in Santa Fe in the late fifties are directly related to three central axis to Saer's narrative poetics: the conception of writing as critical work, the tension between localism and cosmopolitanism, and the formal resolution that the problem of representation finds in his writing. At the same time, this analysis will attempt to highlight the back and forth dynamics between region, nation and world that influence the circulation of literature in provincial cities, and which, therefore, were decisive for Saer.
