Participaciones de Sarduy en la prensa revolucionaria. Una entrevista fuera de lugar a Mariano Rodrí­guez

Abstract

Between 1956 and 1961 Severo Sarduy published a considerable number of texts about literature, art and Cuban theater in Diario Libre, Lunes de Revolución, Nueva Revista Cubana and Combate 13 de Marzo. He participated in the explosion that characterized the Cuban literary press at the time of the revolution and enrolled in the ranks of intellectuals who worked for it. Focused on his job as an arts journalist, a very young Sarduy interviewed the famous painter Mariano Rodrí­guez (1912-1990), co-founder with sculptor Alfredo Lozano (1913-1997) and writers José Lezama Lima (1910-1976) and José Rodrí­guez Feo (1920-1993) of the journal Orí­genes. This interview was published in Havana on October 12, 1959; and it exhibits the aesthetic and political judgments on the system of cultural visibility of Cuban art in the new social order. Interestingly enough, despite the rupture in the relationship between the publishers, Mariano Rodriguez became the creator of “Eolo”, which served as the icon of the new journal, Ciclón (1955).
