Abstract
The article approaches an edition of Raúl González Tuñón’s book, Primer canto argentino, published in Santiago de Chile in 1943, two years before its expanded edition, published in Argentina in November 1945. Our aim is to reflect on the diverse functions the poems seek to fulfill in each case. Whereas in 1943 the purpose of writing was to act against the repression of the military government, the objective in 1945 is to present a triumphant story of the democratic forces against emerging Peronism. Thus, within the framework of a poetics based on a model of artistic effectiveness, Tuñón’s poems aspire to incite readers to action in the direction indicated by the author
