Marriage and Collaboration. The Case of Emma de la Barra and Julio Llanos

Abstract
Stella, the first novel published by Argentinean writer Emma de la Barra in 1905, is a book that shaped her career and the critical readings of her work. That novel is often referred to as the first best-seller of Argentinean literature. And because of its commercial success, the attention given to that book has often overshadowed De la Barra's work after the best-seller. In this article, I will consider how a biographical approach to her work provides a new perspective. Specifically, I will analyze her affective and professional relationship with Julio Llanos, her second husband, who was also a writer, journalist, and politician. I will assess the marriage topic in Stella and in other texts that De la Barra published in the press to examine the collaboration forms of this literary couple.
