Suspension point, meeting point: El eco de mi madre, by Tamara Kamenszain

Abstract

This essay intends to bring ways of reading El eco de mi madre, by Tamara Kamenszain, understanding the book as a double echo and going through its resonances and dissonances when looking for what moves from listening to writing: for example, how this writing brings marks of the rhythm of a trauma inscribed in the body that resounds what was muted in the mother tongue? Displacement, therefore, takes shape as an operator of reading keys: from ontology (“being”) to conviviality (“being-with”), from the stabilization of the referent to a changing position of the subject and the enunciative place, from the point from the disarticulation of language to a bridge between the living and the dead, from the point of disarticulation of prose to the starting point of verse, from the fixity of the end point to the suspension of the point as a starting point of a novel. These and other displacements are woven from operations of cutting and sewing what is or is not transmitted from a language, inventing another one that is, at the same time, a language to speak both with the dead and with babies.
