Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to analize the realist paintings by Belmiro de Almeida in the light of Jacques Rancière theory for whom 19th-century literay Realism creates the conditions of possibilities for photography and cinema. In this way, the focus of analysis on the machine (photographic or cinematographic) shifts, apart from relocating Realism as a changing point from the poetic regime to the aesthetic regime.
